At Integral Performance Physio, we commonly see injuries of the lower extremity where the patient requires the use of an assistive device to help them walk.
However, many of these patients use the cane/crutch on the wrong side.
This may be due to watching shows like House M.D (he does use the cane on the wrong side) or maybe just the intuition that the cane should be placed closer to the injured leg.
However, the right answer is actually to have the cane on the OPPOSITE side of the injured leg.
For example: if you hurt your right leg, the cane should be placed in your left hand.
